Donald Bryan Morgan of Kennard was called to Heaven by our Lord on April 13, 2025. Visitation will be held Friday, April 18, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Campbell Aman Funeral Home in Blair.

Celebration of Life will be held Saturday April 19, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Reach Church in rural Blair. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date.

He was born to Larry and Donna (Morrison) Morgan on May 24, 1963, in Parsons, Kansas. He was baptized into the Christian faith in July 1976 in Blair, Nebraska.

Don was raised in Blair, Nebraska, graduating from Blair High School in 1981 and lived most of his life in Washington County, the last 25 years in Kennard.

Don met the love of his life, Lanette (Petersen) Morgan, in 1985 through a friend. Don and Lanette were married on May 28, 1988. To this union two sons were born.

Don worked in several industries before finding his passion for law enforcement. Don started as a dispatcher in Dodge County before joining the Washington County Sheriff's office as a reserve deputy in 2000 and full-time in 2003.

Don retired from law enforcement in 2019 to pursue his dream of opening Smoke on Arrival BBQ. In 2022, Don and Lanette purchased the “old” Methodist Church at Second and Linn in Kennard and opened The Church venue. In the off season, Don worked part time at Blair Community Schools as a bus driver. Don was a member of the Fremont Rural, Winslow, Arlington, and Kennard volunteer fire departments.

He enjoyed go-kart racing at Little Daytona where he and Lanette started dating. Later, he graduated to stock car racing at Sunset, Eagle, I-80 and Harlan, Iowa. He loved to hunt, fish, ride motorcycles and go camping with family and friends. He considered his sons his greatest accomplishment and loved spending time with them partaking in their hobbies.

Don was a kid at heart and loved everything that the kids wanted to do, whether that be haunted houses, scary movies, remote control cars/planes or motocross. Don’s boxer, Captain, was “the best dog ever” and was his faithful companion until the very end.

Don was active in every church he attended, teaching Sunday school, leading youth activities, assisting with communion service and ushering. He was a mentor to many, and during his cancer treatments he became an inspiration to all he encountered.

To Don everything was “just peachy,” or he was “living the dream.” No matter what happened he stayed positive and true to himself. He knew that this life was temporary and was content knowing heaven was his final destination.

Don is survived by his wife, Lanette; sons Dylan and Garrett Morgan; parents Larry and Donna Morgan; brothers Larry (Patty) Morgan and Jim Morgan, sister Kris Morgan, mother-in-law Lila Petersen, brother-in-law Lee (Chandra) Petersen, and Lynn (Kathy) Petersen as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
