Roland Morgan Rasmussen passed away May 15, 2025, in Blair. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 19, at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Military graveside honors will be held at Arlington Cemetery following a luncheon at First Lutheran Church.
Roland was born February 20, 1932, in a rural farm home southeast of Arlington, Nebraska, the son of Morgan and Irene (Stork) Rasmussen. At the age of four and a half, he entered the first grade and completed eight years of elementary education in a one room school in Spiker, Nebraska. His great grandfather, Peter Morgansen, organized the founding of Spiker School District No. 48 in 1884. Roland went on to a rural high school, Rose Hill for one year; he then attended three years at Fremont Senior High where he graduated in 1948.
While growing up, Roland was a member of the Spiker Livestock 4-H Club. He exhibited cattle at local, state and national shows and won many championship awards.
In 1953, Roland entered the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. After discharge from the Army in 1955, he returned to the family farm. Along with farming and cattle feeding, he was involved with operating Rasmussen Feed Lots, a family corporation which later developed into Lazy R Feed Mill.
Roland was very involved in his community. He served as a 4-H leader, chairman of the Washington County School Reorganization Committee and Washington County Fair Beef Show. he was also a member of the Washington County Livestock Feeders Association, VFW No. 1251, American Legion Post No. 154 and First Lutheran Church, serving many years on the council.
In July 2023 Roland was honored to be named the Grand Marshall of the Washington County 4-H Fair Parade. In 1986, Roland ended his career in farming and cattle feeding and began working with Ag-Bag International in Blair.
Upon retirement, his passion was tending to his beautiful yard, garden and pond. Roland spent countless hours weeding, watering and feeding his turtles. He was a member of the Blair Garden Club giving many summer garden tours at his home. He loved traveling and visited relatives in Denmark and friends in Spain.
He was a loving, kind and devoted family man, never missing a celebration or family reunion. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Roland is survived by his daughters: Jill (Denny) Strong and Ann (Pam) Rasmussen; grandchildren: Brent, Brianna and Jay; great grandchildren: Delilah and Jude; sisters-in-law: Linda Rasmussen and Gene Rasmussen; along with nieces, nephews, extended family and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Kevin Rasmussen; brothers David, Daniel and Steven; and sister Delores.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church or the Blair Rescue Squad.
