Arlene was born on her parent's farm near Alcester, South Dakota, to John H. and Hulda (Reiser) Wendel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan C. Brandes, parents, brother, Robert J. Wendel, sister, Helen Wendel Hartman.

Arlene is survived by sons, Jeffrey McCart of Bellevue Ne, Ronald McCart, Kansas City, and Randall (Lynnette) McCart, Omaha. Also, a grandchild, and great-grandchildren, niece, Dorothy Jean Hartman, and several cousins.

Arlene and Alan lived in Omaha until he passed away in 1994, and then moved to Bellevue, Ne. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Omaha, for many years, and then transferred in Hanscom Park United Methodist Church, Omaha, and a member since 1975.

Arlene loved to travel, visiting all 50 states, most territories in Canada, and several European countries. She enjoyed secretarial work, especially at First Lutheran Church, Omaha, and then District Secretary for United Methodist Church, retiring after 19 years in that position.
