William “Bill” Arnold Hineline of Oakland, Nebraska, formerly of DeSoto, went home to be with his Lord on September 3, 2025, at the Oakland Heights Nursing Home with family by his side.
Bill was born on July 22, 1944, to Norma Hineline and was raised in DeSoto, Nebraska, by his mother and Virgil Hineline.
The eldest of 5 children, Bill enjoyed growing up on the rural homeplace, racing junk cars in the cornfield before Virgil would cut them up for scrap, and fishing and hunting.
He spent considerable time learning automotive mechanics from his father, Virgil, and enjoyed turning wrenches with his friends.
Bill began a lifelong relationship with Patricia Harper, whose family ran the DeSoto Store on the Hineline homeplace.
At the age of 17, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy but maintained a close relationship with Pat. The Couple were married in 1965 and enjoyed 52 wonderful years together before her passing in 2017.
His Naval career took him to Sacramento, CA, Anchorage, AK, Millington, TN, and Norfolk, VA. He served as a jet mechanic upon several aircraft carriers and was discharged in 1981 as Senior Chief Petty Officer.
He and Pat returned to his childhood home in DeSoto where the couple raised their three children. Bill then worked for 22 years as a security guard at the Omaha Public Power District nuclear facility north of Fort Calhoun.
He was a dedicated father and husband and served in the churches the family attended throughout the years. It was a Vacation Bible School lesson that led Bill to begin a lifelong relationship with his savior Jesus Christ.
As he would often say, nothing felt right without including Pat in everything he did. They loved fishing at Summit Lake with Bill’s sister, Sue, and her husband, Tob Robinson, as well as weekly table games for many years.
Being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at the age of 61, Bill remained content in all things and loved to talk about his wife and family and their home in DeSoto. His most recalled memories centered around his career in the Navy, which he frequently discussed with all who would listen.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Norma Hineline, wife Patricia Hineline, daughter Carmen Hineline and son Christopher Hineline.
Survivors include his brother Charles and wife Christy Hineline of Blair, sister Joyce Hansen of Elkhorn, brother David and wife Amy Hineline of South Sioux City, his son Curt and daughter-in-law Shannon of Oakland and their children Mikhail, Owen and Riley, daughter Kim and son-in-law Brent Clark of Blair and their children Austin and Taylor as well as five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted by Bill’s son, Pastor Curt Hineline, on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Visitation will be held prior to services beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Bill wished to be cremated with family receiving the ashes.
Memorials are suggested to the family for designation at a later date.
Arrangements are being made by Campbell-Aman Funeral Home
