Death of Peter Huff

The following from a Fort Calhoun paper tells of the death of a former Randolph citizen who was known to many of our readers:

Peter Huff was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany on June 1, 1860. He died in the Swedish Mission Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska on February 8.

When twenty years of age he came to America, locating in Iowa. He first came to Fort Calhoun about thirty-five years ago, remaining here four years, returning to Iowa after his marriage to Miss Mary Danger, which took place in Wayne County, Nebraska in September, 1890. He again became a resident of Calhoun in 1915, purchasing the Nichols property in the north part of town, where he and his wife have resided since. Besides the widow he leaves two children, Mrs. Hannah Schutt of Sholes, Nebraska and William Huff of near Council Bluffs, Iowa. And one sister, Mrs. Horn of Sunbury, Iowa.

About three weeks ago Mr. Huff sustained a broken leg while working in the timber. He was taken to the hospital, and up until a few days before his death the break was reported as healing nicely and no symptoms of any other trouble being observed, when blood poisoning developed and in spite of the efforts of doctors and nurses he passed away at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Huff was an honorable and upright man, enjoying the confidence and respect of all, and his sudden demise came as a shock to the community. He was serving his second term as councilman, in which capacity he devoted the same zeal to the public business entrusted to him as he did his personal affairs.

The funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock this afternoon, from the residence, Rev. Hutcheson to officiate. Burial will be in the Calhoun cemetery.
