Robert (Bob) Junior Burt, 85, of Herman, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at his home on August 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born on July 5, 1941, in Fremont, Nebraska, to Edwin Wilder Burt and N. Eloise (Fenske) Burt. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Bonnie Anderson and Betty Bohannon; and his beloved grandson, Austin Burt. He leaves his wife Gloria Thomas Burt, his sister, Beverly Gless; his brother, Gary Burt; and many extended family members.

In 1963, Bob married the love of his life, Gloria Irene Thomas, in Valley, Nebraska and from that day forward, he was forever her "Bobby". Together they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage, building a home centered on love, hard work, and devotion to family.

Bob is lovingly remembered by his children: Dean (Traci) Burt, Wes (Lisa) Burt, Tony (Jan) Burt, and Karen (James). He was a proud grandfather to 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.

Bob proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Gunner’s Mate before beginning a long career as a lineman with Omaha Public Power District. After retiring from OPPD, he wasn’t content to stay home. He went back to work as a contractor with IBEW Local Union 55, traveling wherever he was needed to restore power after major storms. He took great pride in helping communities get back on their feet, and his dedication, skill, and strong work ethic earned the respect of everyone who worked alongside him.

An outdoorsman at heart, Bob found his greatest peace on the water. He loved piloting his airboat and fishing the Niobrara, Elkhorn, and Red River in the Dakotas. He was also a cowboy at heart and a bit of a daredevil. As a young man, he could often be found riding horses bareback and even standing on their backs —something few people would ever attempt. That adventurous spirit never left him, whether he was chasing storms as a lineman, exploring the outdoors, or embracing whatever challenge came his way.

If something was broken, Bob could fix it. If someone needed help, he was there. He had a gift for storytelling, could keep a room laughing for hours, and was known as a formidable card player. His quick wit and colorful sayings became woven into his family’s memories. Some of his favorites included, “Ice cream fixes everything,” “If it ain’t yours, don’t monkey with it,” and, of course, “Cowboy up.”

Bob’s legacy is not measured by the things he owned, but by the people he loved, the values he lived, and the countless lives he touched through simple acts of kindness and service. Those who knew him will remember a man who lived with the heart of a cowboy—fearless, adventurous, hardworking, and always ready to help someone else. Just as he once stood confidently on the back of a running horse, he faced life with courage, strength, and unwavering faith. His influence will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.
