Lavern B. Swacina, 98, of Blair, died Jan. 19, 2012, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair. Services were Monday, Jan. 23, 2012.
Lavern Bernice Johnson was born Nov. 28, 1913, in Maskell. She graduated from Hartington High School and attended Boyle's in Omaha before marrying Emil Swacina on June 7, 1938.
She worked as a bookkeeper for Pennfield Oil for many years, and was a lifelong member of Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha. She had resided at Crowell Home for the past four years.
She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Merle Palmer of Hartington, nephew and wife, Richard and Leslie Palmer of Blair; nieces and spouse, Ann Pedersen of Sioux City, Iowa, and Karen and Ron Turco, and sister-in-law, Helen Johnson, all of Omaha. She will be missed the most by a great-great-nephew, Jackson, who loved to ride on her wheelchair and visit the birds with her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil, in 1979; sister, Fern Metz; brother, Merle Johnson, and a teenage brother, Adrian.
