PIONEER LADY GOES TO HER REWARD
The death of Mrs. Mary A. Johns, a pioneer resident of Washington county and Blair, occurred at her home, 112 East State St. in this city, on Wednesday morning, Feb. 27, after a lingering illness.
The deceased was born in Lawrence county, Indiana on Nov. 12, 1839 and was therefore past eighty-four years of age at the time of her death.
She was married sixty-five years ago to Mr. A.T. Johns in the home state, Indiana. In 1865 they came to Nebraska and settled on the homestead, five miles north of Blair where they resided until 1899 when they moved to this city.
Mr. A.T. Johns died twenty-one years ago last January. The deceased leaves three daughters and two sons to mourn her passing. They are Mrs. Carrie Free, who lived with her mother and tenderly cared for her; Mrs. Etta Mehrens, of Santa Rosa, New Mexico; Mrs. Effa Bartlett, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Arthur M. Johns, who resides on the homestead and E.B. Johns of Central City, Nebr.
She had three daughters who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Johns had been a member of the Church of God for forty-five years.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home, Elder A. Adams having charge of the services.
The out of town friends and relatives of the deceased who were in attendance at the funeral were Mrs. E. Dixon, Mrs. Dr. Davis, Mrs. Dr. Pruner, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harper and son, Elder Adams and wife, all of Omaha.

Mrs. Mary Johns, a pioneer resident of this community, passed away Wednesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carrie Free, in this city at the ripe old age of 84 years. The funeral will be held Saturday at two o’clock, and interment will be made in the Blair cemetery. Mrs. Johns was a native of Indiana. She leaves two sons, Art of Blair, and F. B. of Central City, also three daughters, Mrs. George Mehrens of Santa Rosa, N.M., Mrs. S. A. Bartlett of Milwaukee and Mrs. Free of Blair, as well as 21 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
