JOHN E. JOHNSON, 58

John E. Johnson, 58, died Thursday, May 26, 2005, at his home in rural Hooper.

Memorial graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, June 3, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Decatur with military honors by the Ryan V.F.W. Post No. 5543 and American Legion Post No. 46, both of Oakland.

John E. “Johnnie” Johnson was born Sept. 4, 1946, in rural Burt County to Raymond and Evelyn Johnson.

He attended country school through eighth grade and Tekamah High School.

On May 31, 1967, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps. He served during the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one star, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Rifle Marksman Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged March 10, 1970.

He married Linda Crannell on July 24, 1981, in Tekamah. The couple had one son, Raymond, whom Johnnie named after his dad, whom he looked up to and had a deep respect for.

He was employed as a carpenter at S.E. Smith Millworks in Blair, and was a member of Ryan V.F.W. Post No. 5543 in Oakland.

Survivors include his father, Raymond Johnson of Tekamah; brother, Michael Johnson of Blair; son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Robbin Johnson of Franklin; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; Lorrie Johnson of Oakland, Cathy Rich of Howells, Debbie Vering of Columbus and Monte Robinson of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn.

Hamel-Peck-Pelan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
