Clara E. Ehlers, 96

Clara E. Ehlers, 96, of Blair, died Sunday, July 9, 2006, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Interment will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday, July 11, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Clara Ellen (Schroder) Ehlers was born Oct. 28, 1909, at Decatur to Ray and Lizzie "Kit" (Arnold) Schroder. She graduated from Martin (S.D.) High School in 1929.

She moved to Decatur and worked at a grocery store until she married Dr. Donald Ehlers, DDS, on Aug. 17, 1934, at Dakota City.

In 1941, Dr. and Mrs. Ehlers moved to Blair, where they made their permanent residence.

Mrs. Ehlers was a mother and a homemaker and well-known for her baking, which she learned from working at a bakery in South Dakota.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas C. and Carolyn Ehlers of Cody, Wyo.; daughter, Arlene Ehlers of Beatrice; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1983; stepson, Donald R. Ehlers Jr.; two brothers, Harold and Glen Schroder; and a sister, Goldie McManigal.

Memorials are suggested to the Mosaic Foundation, 4985 S. 118th Street, Omaha, or the charity of your choice.
