He was married to Esther Whitmus of Herman, Nebraska, on December 20, 1942, at Joplin, Missouri.

He is survived by his widow, Esther, two step-daughters, Martha Weaver of Lansing, Michigan, and Jeannette Wilson of Fremont, Nebraska, two step-sons Raymond Whitmore of Joplin, Missouri, and Lloyd Whitmore of Fremont, Nebraska, seven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
