William A. Hollis, 92
William A. Hollis, 92, of Blair died Thursday, May 24, 2012, at his son Stephen’s home in Herman.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at First Baptist Church in Blair. There will be no visitation. Interment will be in the Prairie View Cemetery near Kennard.
William Arthur Hollis was born February 9, 1920, in Erith, Kent, England, to William Henry and Maude Emma (Craddock) Hollis.
Between 1937 and 1946, he served in the British Army in the 1st Batallion of Commandos (Special Forces).
On August 25, 1951, he was united in marriage to Betty Duckett at Holy Trinity Church on Bondi Beach, Australia.
In 1970, he moved to the United States to provide a better life and more opportunity to his family. During his working years, he farmed and eventually retired from Paxton Vierling Steel in Carter Lake, Iowa.
Mr. Hollis had a passion for all types of gardening, growing fruits, vegetables and flowers. His greatest love was always his family.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, William “Bill” R. and Debbie Hollis of Omaha and Stephen and Susan Hollis of Herman; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine J. and Frank Davis of Columbus; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters who live in England, Hilda Slaughter and Joyce Sadler.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; and brother, Cyril Hollis.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
