Wachter, John Christian
Chris Wachter died Friday and the funeral was held Monday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Annie Peddie. Rev. John Pougher and Rev W. A. Bowden had charge of the funeral.
Mr. Wachter leaves to mourn his departure his wife and eleven children, Ben and John, Mrs. Annie Peddie, Mrs. Bertha Niederkruger, Mrs. Hilda Yowell, Mrs. J. Van Horn, Caroline and Christen of Herman; Mrs. Clayton Deaver of Gillette, Wyo, Mrs. Ida Hansen of Kearney, Nebr., Mrs. Emma Hansen of Bellevue, Nebr., and a number of grandchildren. The family has the sympathy of their friends.

Obituary
John Christian Wachter was born in Mels Switzerland, February 1, 1839, and died at his home in Herman, Neb., July 7, 1923 after a long illness, aged 84 years, 5 months and 7 days. He came to this country at the age of nineteen. He became a citizen of the United States and served three years during the Civil war as a corporal in Co. T 82nd Regiment of Infantry, Illinois Volunteers.
He was married July 29th, 1865, a few days after his discharge from the army, to Miss Emma Hugleman, at Belleville, Illinois. To this union thirteen children were born of whom eleven still live.
Mr. Wachter came to Nebraska in 1869 settling in Blair. The following spring he took a homestead six miles southwest of Herman where he lived thirty-six years, enduring the hardships and starvation of pioneer life. Seventeen years ago he moved to the farm south of Herman now occupied by John and Ben Wachter. Eleven years ago Mr. Wachter moved to Herman.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, John and Ben Wachter and nine daughters: Mrs. Annie Peddle, Miss Caroline Wachter, Mrs. D. H. Hansen, Miss Christine Wachter, Mrs. Pete Hansen, Mrs. Bertha Neiderkruger, Mrs. James Van Horn, Mrs. Floyd Yowell, Mrs. Clayton Deaver and twenty-two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. John Poucher, of Omaha, an old friends of the family, assisted by Rev. Bowden of Herman.
#3-12 July, 1923 - The Enterprise - Chris Wachter
Chris Wachter, a highly respected citizen here for many years, passed away at his home at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 7th. Mr. Wachter has been in failing health for some time. Surviving to mourn his loss are the aged wife and following sons and daughters: Mrs. Anna Peddie, Mrs. Pete Hanson, Kearney; Mrs. Detlof Hanson, Papillion; Mrs. James Van Horn, Mrs. Bertha Neiderkruger, Mrs. Hulda Yowell, Mrs. Clayton Deaver, Misses Caroline Wachter and Christen Wachter and John and Ben Wachter. Funeral services were held at the Mrs. Peddie home, conducted by Rev. John Poucher of Omaha. Burial was made in the Herman cemetery.
