MISSING GIRL’S BULLET-RIDDLED BODY IS FOUND

Washington County authorities Tuesday questioned one young man and sought another in connection with the slaying of a 15-year-old Bellevue girl whose partly clad body was found near Fort Calhoun.

Laurie Anne Jones had been missing since two companions reported she vanished from a car Aug. 30 north of Hummel Park while they were looking nearby for marijuana.

Her body, clad only in a blouse, was found Sunday by a hunter. County Atty. Roy Anderson said preliminary results from an autopsy showed she was shot five times, four in a cluster in the chest, once in the head.

Sheriff John Sutherland said the body was badly decomposed, indicating she died weeks ago, perhaps shortly after she was reported missing.

Authorities declined to identify the man held or the one sought.

The suspect, long-haired, unkempt of the hippy type, was in jail at Blair Tuesday. The man, 19, appeared to be under the influence of drugs, said the Sheriff’s office. He refused to sit on a chair, but preferred to sit cross legged on the floor and ate his meals in the same fashion. No charges had been issued late Tuesday.
