Carl Eugene Guern, 71

Memorial services for Carl Eugene Guern, 71, who died January 11, 1994, at Crowell Home in Blair where he had moved following an illness, will be 1 p.m. Friday, January 14, at St. Paul United Methodist Church Chapel in Omaha.

Carl Eugene Guern was born February 8, 1922, to Carl and Pearl Schlote Guern in Concord, Nebraska. He attended school at Concord.

He worked for the railroad in central Nebraska. He later moved to Sioux City and worked at the Rayovac battery plant.

He married his wife, Betty. They had one child, Ruth.

When the batter plant closed, he moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, with his new wife, Lois. He worked for American Packaging Corporation and raised five additional children, Robert, Linda, Brenda, Jeff and Rodney.

In 1991, he moved to Omaha and was a resident of Benson Towers until his illness forced him to move to Crowell Home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

He is survived by a daughter, Ruth E. Stroud of Fort Calhoun; sons, Robert, Jeff and Rodney of Hutchinson, Kansas; daughters, Linda Hinojos and Brenda Guern of Hutchinson; a half-sister, Grace Paulsen of Laurel, Nebraska, and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorials may go to the Omaha Visiting Nurses Association Hospital program or St. Paul United Methodist Church in Omaha.

Boyd Braman Mortuary in Omaha is in charge of arrangements.
