Edgar F. Grefe, 84, of Arlington, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Arlington. The Rev. Dr. Michael L. Rogers will officiate. Interment will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Arlington.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington, and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Edgar F. Grefe was born on April 14, 1916, in Quincy, Ill., to Gustav and Wilhelmina (Schelt) Grefe. He moved to the Arlington area when he was 10 years old. He was a farmer until retiring, and later worked at House Lumber Co. in Arlington for several years.
He married Dorothea Hilgenkamp on Dec. 25, 1939, in Arlington.
Mr. Grefe was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington, and was a charter member of the Lutheran Layman’s League. He had also been a 4-H leader for several years.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Jackie Grefe of Arlington; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilbur and Irma Grefe and Fred and Mardell Heybrock, all of Arlington; five grandchildren, Brad, Mark, Mike and Marcy Grefe, and Shellie Carper; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Arlington.
Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington is in charge of arrangements.

Arlington – Edgar F. Grefe, 84, of Arlington died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
Grefe was born April 14, 1916, in Quincy, Ill. He moved at age 10 with his family to Arlington. He married Dorothea Hilgenkamp Dec. 25, 1939, in Arlington. He was a farmer until retiring and then worked for several years at House Lumber Company in Arlington. His wife died Sept. 9, 1979.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington and was a charter member of Lutheran Laymen’s League. He was a 4-H leader for several years.
Survivors include: a son, Gary (and wife, Jackie) Grefe of Arlington; two brothers, Wilbur (and wife, Irma) Grefe and Fred (and wife, Mardell) Heybrock, all of Arlington; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son and an infant brother.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Arlington, with the Rev. Michael L. Rogers officiating.
Visitation will be until 9 tonight with family receiving friends 6:30-8 tonight, all at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the church.
Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Arlington.
A memorial has been established to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
