Former Calhoun Resident Dies At Blair
Funeral services were held Saturday, for Francis Zaepffel, a former Fort Calhoun resident, who was found dead Thursday in his room at the Clifton Hotel in Blair.
Services were held at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Calhoun at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, with Reverend Daniel Brick officiating. Burial was in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery. Rosary was recited Friday evening at the Sievers Funeral Home, who was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Zaepffel will be remembered in the Fort Calhoun area by his nickname, “Greek”. He spent most of his life in the Calhoun area, and was an electrician by trade.
He was born on July 9, 1904, in Omaha, Nebraska, to George and Anna Zaepffel, who moved to Fort Calhoun while “Greek” was a young man. He never married.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Robert (Florence) Reichel of Omaha. A sister, Mrs. Dale (Virginia) Stricklett preceded him in death.
