Joseph Gerber Zaepffel
Was born May 4, 1827, and died October 23, 1912, was married in Harlan, New York, to Miss Eliza Smith July 11, 1866. Mr. Zaepffel had had a wonderful mind in his day and had a greater education than even his children knew of. Since his death, papers, certificates and diplomas, etc. have been found where he had been connected and at the head of high educational institutions in France. He could speak several different languages and had had some of the Vanderbilt and Gould families as private pupils at one time in Y.Y. He was induced to come to Omaha by Bishop Clarkson who helped him to start a private school for boys and was aided financially by Capt. Downs.

Joseph G. Zaepffel died at his home on the farm near Kennard this morning and the funeral will be held at the Catholic church in this city at 10 o’clock Friday morning. His nephew, George Zaepffel, lived with him, his wife, who was Mrs. E. C. Jackson’s mother, having been dead for many years. He was past 80 years of age.
