Ray F. Welchert, 68
A funeral mass was held Friday, January 14, 1994 for Ray F. Welchert, 68 of Omaha who died January 11, 1994 at Immanuel Medical Center of emphysema. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
He was a gardener most of his life, continuing the tradition of his father and grandfather. He supplied many Omaha supermarkets with vegetable during 45 years of gardening. From about 1979-1990, he sold vegetables from his residence, Welchert Gardens, which was located north of Omaha.
A native of Omaha, he served in the Army during World War II. He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion in Fort Calhoun.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Omaha; sons, Chuck and Ron, both of Fort Calhoun; Ray, Jr., Steve, Ken, Sr. and Ed and daughters, Joyce Tietgen, Teri Kreigler and Karen Dethlefs, all of Omaha; 24 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother Robert of Fort Calhoun and sisters, Katherine O’Keefe and Margaret Manson, both of Omaha.
Arrangements were by Roeder Mortuary in Omaha.
