Services for Rev. C. Vander Stoep, 74 of Fremont who died June 5, 1996 at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County in Fremont were Saturday, June 8 at Salem Lutheran Church at Fontanelle. A private committal was held.
C. Vander Stoep was born June 12, 1921 at Maurice, Iowa, where he grew up and graduated from Maurice High School. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II.
He graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland, Washington; attended Augustana Lutheran Seminary in Rock Island, Illinois and was ordained into the Lutheran ministry in 1952.
He served parishes in Unity, Wisconsin, in Hanford, California and in Dalton, Broadwater and Salem Lutheran Church, Fontanelle in Nebraska. Thirty of his 39 years of ministry were involved in Youth/Bible Camp work in Fortune Lake, Michigan, Sierra Lutheran at North Fork, California, Mt. Cross at Felton, California and Chadron state Park in Nebraska.
He retired in 1991 and then served as interim pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Schuyler, St. John’s Lutheran Church at Ridgely, Immanuel Lutheran Church at Snyder and at Bluffs Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Fremont.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle and was active in the Nickerson Lions Club, Nickerson’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7419 and had been active in the communities in which he lived in school activities as a coach, referee and bus driver.
He married Lorraine Chingren August 5, 1950 in Boxholm, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; two daughters, Becky Vander Stoep of Fremont and Terri (Mrs. Tim) Weeces of Minden, Nebraska; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Connie Vander Stoep of Westminster, Colorado; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a sister, Leon Levinson of Missouri Valley, Iowa.
Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
