Marcus Beck, 91

Services for Marcus Beck, age 91, of Blair, who died December 30, 1990 at Memorial Community Hospital, were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 1991, at First Lutheran Church with military honors at the Blair Cemetery.

Marcus Beck was born on November 19, 1899, in rural Washington County, Nebraska, about two miles north of Blair. He was the son of Anders N. and Anna Petersen Beck.

After graduation from Blair High School with the class of 1918, he enlisted in the United States Army and served briefly until the November armistice. He then enrolled at Dana College, graduating in 1921.

He was married to Agnes Rebecca Lund June 14, 1922.

He worked as an abstractor until his election as clerk of the district court and served in that office until 1936. He followed a number of vocations until 1950, when he once again established an abstract and title business in Fremont, Nebraska, where he had moved in 1942. He continued that business until his retirement in 1971.

Baptized at First Lutheran Church in 1899, he was always active in the local and national church boards and committees. He also was close to Dana College, serving over the years as president of the Alumni Association, co-chair of a major fund drive, and as a trustee of the college. All three of his children, Marc, John and Patty are also Dana alumni.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes; his daughter, Patty; his grandson, Marcus R. Beck II; and his sister, Agnes Beck Jensen.

He is survived by his sister, Laura Beck Nyegaard of Eugene, Oregon; sons and daughters-in-law, Marc and Peggy of Columbia, Missouri; John and Ginny of Blair, Nebraska; son-in-law Paul Salchow and his wife Dottie, of Warrensburg, Missouri and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials may go to Dana College.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for the services.
