County Woman, Here Since 1885 Died Saturday
Mrs. Margaret Voss, 77, Spent 57 Years On Blair Farm
Mrs. Margaret Voss, who had spent nearly sixty years as a resident of Washington County, died Saturday, November 21, at the home of her son, Charles Voss. She was 77 years old at the time of her passing.
Born in Osdorf, Holstein, Germany, on February 5, 1865, Mrs. Voss came to America with her parents in 1871. The family first settled in Davenport, Iowa, later moving to a farm near Bennington. She was married to George Voss at Blair in 1885, and came as a bride to the farm, eight miles south of Blair, where she had since resided.
Ten children, six of whom survive, were born to the Vosses. Mr. Voss preceded his wife in death on November 18, 1907.
Mrs. Voss is survived by her children – Mrs. Bertha Wendt of Blair, Mrs. George Wiese of Stanton, Nebraska, Charles and Louis of Blair, George of Cavour, South Dakota, and Ferdinand of Winside; also 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, a brother, John Soll, of Omaha; two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Wulf of Blair and Mrs. William Klindt of Canada; and many friends and relatives. Three of the grandsons are serving in the armed forces.
Funeral services were held at the Charles Voss home on Tuesday, November 24. Rev. Churchill delivered the sermon, and interment was made in the German Cemetery under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home. Six grandsons served as pallbearers.
