Neighbors and friends of Mrs. Melissa Armstrong who lived in the east part of town were shocked to learn of her death which occurred last Wednesday morning. She had been ailing for some time not having enjoyed good health for a number of years but was not thought to be seriously ill until a short time before her death.

Miss Melissa Jane West was born in Huron, Indiana, February 10, 1861 and passed away September 19, 1918, aged 67 years, 7 months and 9 days. She came to Nebraska when just a young woman and lived the remainder of her life in the state, nearly all this time living in or near Herman. She was married to Mr. Armstrong October, 1883. She leaves to mourn her loss two children, Mrs. Ben Bangston, of Hepburn, Iowa, and Arthur Jones, of Blaine, Washington; two sisters, Mrs. D.E. Cummings of Herman and Mrs. Charles Eby of Craig, Neb.; and one brother, Walter G. West, of Herman.

Funeral services were held at the D.E. Cummings home, Thursday morning at 10 o’clock, Rev. P.H. Petersen having charge of the services. Mrs. C.E. Johnson and Mrs. L.V. Ackerman furnished beautiful music. Interment was made in the Herman Cemetery.
