AGED PIONEER DIES
LONG TIME COUNTY RESIDENT DIES AT WASHINGTON HOME
John Stivers Knight, a resident of Washington county for more than half a century, died Christmas Day at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C.H. Graw, at Washington, Nebraska. The deceased was born October 2, 1846, in Meigs county, Ohio. Following the close of the Civil War, he came to Nebraska and was married March 28, 1869, to Miss Susie Brown at Omaha, and to this union seven children were born, all of whom are living. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having served for over four years.
He leaves to mourn his loss besides his wife, three sons, Frank of Alliance, Richard of Norfolk and Charles of Fremont; four daughters, Mrs. C.H. Graw of Washington, Mrs. L.M. Gaines of Wayne, Mrs. C.J. Anderson of Omaha, and Mrs. G. Foy of Fremont. Twenty-seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held last Tuesday afternoon from the Elk City church with the Rev. J.C. Aeschbacker of Arlington in charge of the services. Interment was made in the Elk City cemetery. Members of the Arlington Post of the Legion acted as pallbearers.
