Fern M. Rhoades, 100, of Omaha, a longtime resident of Blair, died Saturday, July 6, 2013.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, at First United Methodist Church in Blair. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the West Center Chapel of Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler, 7805 West Center Rd., Omaha. Graveside service and interment will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Hollst Lawn Cemetery in Yutan.

Fern M. Anderson was born April 9, 1913, in Lyons to Sigart and Anna Anderson.

A 1931 graduate of Lyons High School, Fern went on to graduate from Wayne State College in Wayne and Midland College in Fremont.

For 35 years, she taught school in Hooper, Albion, Fremont and Blair.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Blair and was active with United Methodist Women, P.E.O., Bridge Club and A.A.U.W. She was also a member of the Blair Hospital Auxiliary and was actively involved with numerous Humane Societies. She enjoyed traveling and gardening, and loved beautiful flowers.

She is survived by daughter, Kay Hofmann; grandson, Mark Hofmann (Adam Ciejek); brother, Erwin Anderson; step-children, Kenneth Rhoades (Virginia) and Charlotte Glinski; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; step-great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dr. Norman Rathmann and J. Hilton Rhoades; and brothers, Merwin and Vernon.

Memorials may be directed to the Nebraska Humane Society.
