Fred Masters, Jr. was found dead at his home Sunday, June 29, 1997.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Bend. Rev. Verdell Schramm will officiate. Burial will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Arlington Cemetery.
Masters was born July 4, 1924 at Blair to Fred and Lillie (Woods) Masters. He grew up on a farm near Blair. He then lived at Arlington, Kennard and Fort Calhoun where he farmed until retiring in 1980. He moved to Fremont in 1981. On Jan. 11, 1944, he married Harriett R. Vasbinder at Council Bluffs. She died Jan. 19, 1995. On Oct. 11, 1996, he married Dolores A. (Bayer) Pieper at Fremont. She was found dead June 29, 1997.
He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Bend, Neb. and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 200 of Fremont.
Survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Dick Royuk of North Bend; a step-son and his wife, Kenneth and Cathy Pieper of Fremont; a brother, Edgar Masters of Lake Ozark, Mo.; a sister, Dorothy Thompson of Arlington; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Harriett, he was preceded in death by a brother, Loren Masters.
Pallbearers are Ron Schindler, Duane Thompson, Lyle Thompson, Richard Masters, Chris Westergaard, Bobby Gorman and Jeff Mitties.
Honorary pallbearers are Mike Royuk, Jeff Dobbs, Bret Williams and Troy Meade.
Memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Bend.
Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
