Dorothy Mencke was born November 30, 1919, in Hooper to Winfield and Cora (Bader) Bishop. She was a graduate of Hooper High School, and taught rural school in the North Bend area.
On June 5, 1940, she married Lloyd Mencke in Hooper. The couple lived in the Fontanelle area from 1940 until moving to Herman in 1944. The couple later moved to Blair in 1988.
Mrs. Mencke was a life member of the Bench Club, Herman Federated Church, and WSCS. She served as a 4-H leader for many years. She cooked for the Herman schools and Dana College.
She is survived by son Lee Mencke of Blair, daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Robert Gnuse of Arlington, son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jaccie Mencke of Herman, nine grandchildren, one great-grandson, and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband and three sisters.
Dorothy Mencke, 81, of Blair, died Monday, October 22, 2001 at her residence.
Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
