Albert 'Gus' D. Boyce, 89
Albert “Gus” D. Boyce, 89, of Blair died Monday, Jan. 6,2014, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Blair Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Albert “Gus” Boyce was born the eldest of 12 children on June 24, 1924, in Dunlap, Iowa to Albert E. and Mary F. (Woodard) Boyce.
He was raised and attended school in the rural Dunlap area.
After his schooling he worked for his father on the family farm.
He served his country as a soldier in the U.S. Army.
After attending the Washington County Fair, he moved to Blair.
On May 24, 1949, he married Velma Salsbury in Blair. The couple made their home in Blair.
He was employed with Red-E-mix in Blair as a driver for more than 25 years and retired at the age of 62.
He ran a saw and blade sharpening business at his home and enjoyed training his grandson so he could one day take over the business. He was always known to be a very hard worker.
Mr. Boyce was a lifetime member of the Blair VFW, the AMVETS, Cooties and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Velma, of Blair; sons Darrell (Debi) Boyce of Herman, Bill Boyce of Washington state, and Dale Boyce of Wahoo; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters Dorothy and Ruth of Dunlap.
He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters; stepdaughter Rosetta and son George “Butch.”
