DOROTHY DUNKLAU
Dorothy Dunklau was born January 10, 1912 on a farm northeast of Fontanelle, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Frederick and Ida (Panning) Hartung. She was baptized on January 31, 1912 and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church east of Winslow, Nebraska on April 5, 1925. Dorothy was a 1929 graduate of Hooper High School and attended Wayne State College at Fremont, Nebraska. She married Lorenz Z. Dunklau on July 17, 1938 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on August 9, 1976. The couple lived on a farm northeast of Arlington until moving into Arlington in 1975.
Dorothy was a teacher at St. Paul’s Lutheran School north of Arlington and a librarian at the Arlington Public Library, where she was instrumental in getting the library built. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Women’s League, Quilters, served on the Anniversary Committee and various other committees of the church. She served as secretary of the Washington County Fair Board, was a 4-H leader and a member of the “Just For Fun” extension club.
Dorothy passed from this life on Friday, July 5, 1991 at the Montclair Nursing Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 25 days.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Steven Bremer of Arlington; a sister, Floma Springan of Nickerson; and 3 grandchildren, Cory, Connie and Cathy Bremer.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
