Between Blair and Herman, there was a railroad stop called Hiland (or Hyland) Station, and later named Tyson Station. It was used to load and unload trains. Giles Mead also had a Post
Office in the same area from October 1881 until November 1883. The railroad has since been discontinued and during 1980 the tracks were removed.

Hiland was a station on the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha Railroad, midway between Blair and Herman. It was formerly named Mead Station, in honor of Giles Mead, who, with
V. G. Lantry and Rice Arnold, was quite extensively engaged in shipping cattle from this point. The name was changed to Hiland in September, 1881. The post office at Hiland is named
Giles and was established January 1, 1882; Giles Mead, first postmaster. The principal businesses here were hay pressing and brick making.
The first death was that of Davie M. Mead, February 2, 1882.
