Paper Towns: Hudson

Located in Section 26 and 27 of what is now the Herman Township, a town called Hudson was laid out and a plat filed September 3, 1857. The lots were nearly a quarter mile long. There were 8,720 ots, fifty blocks, 2,000 feet long, no allyes, and the town was two miles long and a half mile wide.

The principal streets were named Jackson, Jefferson, Hudson, Walker, Wall, Broadway, Franklin, Beacon, Temple, and College.

It was William E. Walker who promoted this town. He platted a twin town across on the Iowa side and advertised them together in glowing terms throughout the East. He sold many thousands of dollars worth of lots, then disappeared. The town was just a "paper town" and never materialized.
